Chapter 1
The Beginning
Summer
I’ve been doing youth ministry for six years. At the moment I teach high school students at Temple Heights Church in Oceanside. There’s a girl named Liliana whom I see every once in a while with her family. They help John, the facility director, set up and break down before and after services from time to time. I don’t talk to her much—just a quick hi and bye when we cross paths.
Every Sunday, I get up and get ready to go to the 10:00 a.m. service. One Sunday, I parked my car and started to make my way to the second floor to get to the high school room. As I was about to walk up the stairs, I saw her. At that moment I heard You speak to me in a small, still voice, like a whisper in the wind almost.
You said, “Why don’t you ask me about her?”
“What do You mean?” I asked.
“Why don’t you ask me if she would be a good match for you?”
I thought, You’re kidding, right? God, You’ve got to be joking.
This is clearly insane, and I don’t agree. Nonetheless, I will be obedient and pray.

About the Book
How do you recover from a devastating heartbreak, otherwise known as broken heart syndrome? The sufferer experiences heart pain, shortness of breath and even thinks he may be dying. Do you give in to overwhelming grief? Or do you, like the author, have personal dialogues with God searching for insight?
In the beginning there is denial and bargaining: “God, here is my game plan. If it be Your will, let me have Liliana... and I will give her back to you.” Then anger and bitterness. “What’s wrong with me God? I hate this. Why can’t you just snap your fingers and make it happen?
Finally, acceptance. The long six-year journey to recovery is over. The reader will not only learn about God’s plan for the author, but will learn something about God’s divine purpose in their lives as well.
