An Old Testament queen poses as a model for the entire bride of Christ. The book of Esther captures the essence of her graceful character and vogue which adorns history. As Esther rose to become a queen and bride of the king, so the people of God are the Queen and Bride of God. We are called to enrapture God’s heart with love as intercessors on behalf of the nations who are in captivity to sin and ungrace. Unlike Esther, we do not need to conjure up courage in the face of possible death when we approach our King of Kings because of His atoning blood shed at Calvary. This same grace and salvation is what God longs to extend to the ends of the earth. As it says in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” God says in Isaiah 43:1, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have summoned you by name. You are mine.” We can learn to trust His loving heart, full of compassion and mercy, each time we come to Him. As the Jews were held captive by Haman’s treachery, so also God’s people and the nations can be held captive to Satan’s power by ungrace. Legalism strangles churches, and ungrace ravages families and friendships. Courtships are in turmoil, marriages are ending in divorce, and families are living in psychological and moral guilt. Bitterness and resentment choke romantic love, as it did for King Xerxes and Queen Vashti in the book of Esther. Wars and terrorism rage between nations. Grace has become unrecognizable in the looking glass to many saved and unsaved alike. Ultimately, the Bride of Christ needs to receive and understand the God of all grace, so that we may reflect His image to the world. As a result, our King may hold out His royal scepter to the lost nations longing to taste the love and mercy of God Himself through His Queen- His people. The story of Esther closes in a rapture of conquest! The God, Whose name is hidden throughout the Biblical story, leaves behind for His reader’s sacred fingerprints that display His sovereignty in all its glorious radiance. Esther, who had a delicate submission, a deep reverence, and a rich character, displayed the very handiwork of God. She was God’s instrument that crescendoed to the grand finale of the salvation of the Jews. As God called Esther to intercede with the King for His people, God is calling you as His radiant Bride to stand in the gap through prayer for the nations, who are in much need of God’s surpassing grace.
