The Worship Cycle
Every time we receive a greater revelation of God as we are worshiping Him, it inspires us to worship Him more. When we worship Him more, we receive a further revelation of God, which in turn inspires more worship from us to God. It becomes, then, a self perpetuating cycle, in which we become addicted to the very presence of God. Soon we cannot live without our daily encounter with God’s presence.
To a worshiper, without the presence of God, we become desperate people – we have to know His presence to even survive on a daily basis! We will stop at nothing (within holiness) to have God’s presence every day we live. And, once again, God’s presence is only experienced in the context of worship.
This worship cycle is much like the natural rain cycle. Rain happens after moisture is evaporated from the earth by the sun, the moisture collects in clouds, and it is eventually released back to the earth as precipitation. In the worship cycle, worship rises from God’s people to God. God then responds to that worship by revealing a little more of Himself to the worshiper(s). This then inspires greater worship from the worshiper(s), which in turn causes God to reveal Himself further.
Let’s Review – Worship is…
…the outward expression of our inward love for Almighty God. True Christian worship is unique from all other world religions, in that it springs from our love for God, which is based in a thankful heart attitude. In all other world religions, worship is motivated by a near paralyzing fear of retaliation from the god(s) being worshiped.
The more we know who God in Jesus is, and what He does, and why He does it; the more our worship will reflect our heart of love for God. Ironically, the more we worship Jesus from this revelation of Himself, the more God will reveal Himself, and His works, to us This deeper revelation of God will result in a fuller expression of worship to God, which starts this “Worship Cycle” over again in our lives.
Keep in mind, true worship is always preceded by the Biblical process known as “submitting” to God, to His Word, and to the new revelation we have received of Him. As long as we live, this Worship Cycle should repeat itself in our lives, until we see Jesus face to face.

The reasons God has given us for obeying His commands to worship Him are: because of who He is, and because of what He does.
Worship is the biblically declared reason for mankind’s existence. However, how and when we worship is just as important as the fact that we do worship. Also, what God means when He uses the biblical synonyms of the word “worship” is important to understand when we are trying to obtain a more complete picture of how God wants us to worship Him.

He has been a true pioneer in the field of Christian worship since the 1970s, having been in demand as conference speaker and seminar teacher in Canada as well as the United States. Shamblin has a church music and vocal music degree from Friends University, with graduate studies in education from the University of Phoenix. He has taught at Oklahoma State University, and was the Director of the Music Departments at Christian Ministry Training Centre and Full Gospel Bible Institute.
