"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Genesis 2:24. When a man and a woman get married, God brings them together as one flesh. True oneness can only be experienced by both husband and wife when they have a right relationship with Jesus Christ and are letting him be the center of their marriage. Can one be divided? Only if it is cut in half. This whole thing about becoming one flesh is a mystery that only God can fully understand. We can try to understand, but our finite minds are limited. It's more than a man and a woman coming together, uniting in holy matrimony. Becoming one involves your body, mind, soul and spirit. It's committing all that you are to your spouse and joining together to become all that God has planned for you both to be. Becoming one does not mean that we are no longer to think on our own or to do what we need to develop as a person. We are not giving up our own identity. We are to change our direction in life, no longer thinking as a single person, but as two walking together as one in life's journey, holding on to each other, anchored to Jesus together, when the storms of life come against us.

Married for thirty-seven years and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit, Penelope Marie is sharing what she has experienced along her journey. She is a wife, mother, grandmother, singer and songwriter, has taught Bible studies and led women's groups. Penelope Marie and her husband live in Round Rock, Texas.
