Spiritual Steps

The original writers of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book understood very well the power of faith. Bill W. and Dr. Bob had each been adrift in a sea of alcohol and insanity whose only port in the storm was the occasional stay in the sanitarium or hospital where they were medicated with early sedatives to calm the thirsty beast within themselves. They came to know that attempting to rely on themselves for sobriety and sanity had availed them little to nothing. It was time to turn to God. As discussed in Step One, it is not only necessary for an alcoholic to admit that he or she is powerless over the seductive allure of alcohol, but it is also imperative that for a man to be Saved that he understand that he has been born with a sin nature that can only be cleansed through the Saving Power of Jesus Christ and Faith in Him.
