“I’m just bored. All I do is sit here all day keeping watch over the barnyard-- day and night--night and day. I want to do something big! I want to be a hero.”
“Like who?” asked Sister Songbird.
“Like Samson or like David who killed Goliath. I want a helmet and a sword. Yes, a sword would be cool.” Slash, Swish, Slash!!
“Don’t be silly, David couldn’t wear all that armor and neither can you. You would look silly.” She giggled as she imagined Screech in a helmet with a sword. “Besides, David had only a slingshot.”
“That’s true, but he killed Goliath and saved his people-- that was big!”
“Screech, you’re doing something important. You watch over the entire barnyard and keep us safe.”
”Yes, I watch over the barnyard, but it’s the same old thing day after day. I’m just bored. Nothing exciting ever happens.”

About the Book
When I began writing the Screech series, my target audience was ages five to nine. However, I have found that adults also enjoy these books. It was a fun way to reinforce life lessons for their children and grandchildren with fun repetitive sounds and vivid illustrations.
About the Author
Irita Barnard is a native of Missouri. She and her husband have a home and vineyard east of Lebanon, Missouri. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management/Engineering Administration from Park University of Parkville, Missouri.
In 2007, she retired from the Department of the Army with thirty-five years service, where she worked in facilities management. After retirement, Irita has dedicated much of her time to the church, teaching young people, publishing the church bulletin and church newsletter and writing short stories.
