The Mind and Jesus Christ
You simply must understand what God was doing in Jesus Christ. For this we will look at Colossians the first chapter 1:12 – 20 in verse 12 we read, “giving thanks unto the Father, which have made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 who have delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear son 14: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of our sins: 15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 for by him were all things created, that are in the heaven, and that are in the earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 and he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 and he is head of the body, the church: who is the beginning of the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 for it please God the Father that in him should all the fullness dwell; 20 and, having made peace by the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in the earth, or things in heaven.”
Redemption means something was lost and needed to be brought back with a price. The problem is when Adam failed he could not purchase himself back. The reason being, the price was too high to pay; it required perfection which Adam had lost his perfection. So Christ is our redemption, he pays for us in his own blood on the cross of Calvary. But not only is Christ our redemption, he’s also our peace. By his death burial and resurrection, he brought peace between us and God.
Jesus has opened up a new way to fellowship with God. We can now enter his gates with thanksgiving and praise, thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So your mind must continually meditate on the truth that he redeemed us, He saves us and keeps us. We must understand that He cleansed us in His own blood! God requires holiness, and the only holiness we have, was given us in Christ. We fully bringglory to God when we understand what God did for us in His Son. Everything that was filthy about us God cleansed it in His Son. The more our minds meditate on these truths the clearer our picture of Jesus Christ becomes. We must understand that Jesus Christ is the central figure, for everything God does for man or with him; Christ is the way He does it. We must understand that apart from Jesus Christ, eternity separated us from God; and no hope would be our portion. It is not about any goodness on our part, or good works we had done: but it is all His mercy. We must understand thoroughly that God has only one answer, for anything man goes through and that is Jesus Christ.
Now I would like to look at John 10: 1,
“Jesus said unto them again, verily, verily I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep, 8 “ all that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.”
Notice that the sheep, did not hear the robbers.” In other words those belonging to Christ are lead by Holy Spirit to recognize the voice of Jesus Christ. That’s why it is imperative that we keep our minds immersed in the truths of God. In verse 27 Jesus speaking says,
“my sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me.“
It is impossible to be devoted to anyone or thing that has not completely captivated your mind. That is why it is imperative that we love the Lord with our mind. The only way your mind will be your friend, is if you love Jesus Christ.
I would like to mention something concerning love; most of us think love is something we fall into. But I would like to suggest to you that love is something we will to do. Love is not something that happens accidentally, but it is something we purpose to do. Now I know you hear a lot about love at first sight that just means, you decided to love at a glance. But all love whether at first sight or over long periods of time is something you decided. In other words, you will yourself to love whomever you’ve loved the moment you look at them. And if you love Jesus Christ with your entire mind, it’s something you must will to do. I would like to mention one last thing before we move on to the Holy Spirit. You did not choose Jesus Christ, but God the Father brought you to him. You were not sitting around anywhere and decided to get your life together: on the contrary you were going your own way, and doing your own thing. And then the God of all peace and all comfort started to touch your circumstances and caused you to seek Him.
