What are you seeking after? When I first got saved, I was a mess. I was doing things I shouldn’t and not doing things I should. I was broke, busted and disgusted. I heard that if I accepted Jesus, then He could change my life around. I may not be the brightest candle on the cake, but if that Jesus cat thought He could fix everything that I had broken, then more power to Him. I was in. Unfortunately, I missed the big picture.
You may have been like me at the time. I needed a quick fix. I wasn’t too hung up on the whole eternity thing. Granted, going to Heaven sounded a lot better than going to Hell, but according to all the insurance reports, I still had a few years to go. I needed some here and now help. From what I was told, Jesus was the answer. He could heal. He could restore. All my needs would be met according to His riches in glory. That was good news because my riches weren’t cutting it. You with me?
I started believing for my body to be healed. “Jesus bore the stripes so I could be healed.” I started believing for God to make me rich. “He became poor so I could become rich.” I believed for everything in my life to get better. “He came so I could be made whole.” It was all in the Bible. God said it. I believed it. So why wasn’t it happening? Doesn’t God reward those who earnestly seek Him?
I was seeking the healing, but not the Healer. I wanted the rewards, but was seeking after them and not the Rewarder. See the difference? Now don’t get me wrong. My body is a lot healthier now than back then. My finances are way better than before, but I missed out on God’s best. That is what happens to a lot of people. We seek after the blessing instead of the Blesser. God is so loving and so giving that He does take care of a lot of the little things. However, that is not His best. Your Daddy God wants you to have the best of everything. He doesn’t want to heal you; He wants you walking in divine health. He doesn’t want to bail you out; He wants you living in abundance. Focus on Jesus and how much He loves you, then your Daddy God can reward, restore and rejuvenate you. That is His perfect plan.

Vincent Grote is a high school graduate and former youth pastor. With his daughter in Vermont and son in Korea, he refused to let miles interrupt family devotionals. He continues to spark the light of Christ within others through his testimony of God’s love. He lives with his wife of more than twenty-five years in north central Florida.
