Letting Your Story Become a Bridge That Leads Others to Christ

God didn't stop using the theme of Noah in my life there. In fact there are many more stories that I could talk about revolving around how God used the testimony of Noah in my life, but my favorite story happened the following year, in July of 2011. That summer, in God’s perfect timing, my family and I, as well as Joe, ended up taking a cruise, which in and of itself was the fulfillment of a desire that I had had even as a little girl. Long before I had even met Joe, I had gained a desire to go to the Caribbean on a vacation with my family and my future boyfriend. Well, I began to see that this desire was a promise from God given to me as a little girl and that He had used it to set the stage for something greater.
Although I have many amazing God-stories that go along with this cruise, the best one happened on the last day. After having docked, while my family was literally minutes away from being called to get off the boat, my aunt pointed something out to me. She pointed out a rainbow that was streaming out of a cloud in the sky above us. It was a beautiful sight, but also rather a shocking sight based on the fact that it had not rained. There was no evidence of rain at all. There just happened to be a beautiful rainbow in the sky as we were about to leave the boat. And as you can imagine, all I could think about, and say out loud to my family was that “It is as if we are getting off the Ark.”
I then burst into tears when I realized what God was showing me, what He was symbolizing in that moment. All of that Noah’s Ark symbolism that had gone on for so long, all the times that I cried out, like Noah must have, asking God when fulfillment to my promises would come, somehow I just knew in my heart of hearts that God was telling me that this Ark was finally landing. I knew He was saying that it was time to get off the boat, if not that day, real soon.
You know it’s funny because I actually thought about jumping ship a lot during that cruise, and I mean literally jumping ship. I wasn't suicidal or anything, I just couldn't help but to be fascinated at how easy it would have been; that people at any moment could just climb the railing and jump. I guess what fascinated me was the freedom that we were given to make that choice, for we didn't have to sign any waivers and as far as I could tell, there were not any protective measures to make sure that people didn't jump, no extra high railings or walls, etc. But you know, the same is true with God. Although He constantly encourages us and impresses His will upon us, He will not force it on us. In the end it is our choice. It is our choice to stay the course, to stay on the boat and to wait on His timing, and when we do, we reach the Promised Land. I know
After seeing that rainbow we walked off the boat. As we then went through customs the lady in charge told Joe and I very adamantly again and again and again that we were to, “Stand side by side, two by two.” She seemed obsessed with making sure that we stood side by side, which of course only added to the Noah’s Ark symbolism. So, Joe and I not only left the boat side by side, but continued to journey side by side. God is faithful.
