As the Word of God is studied, it is very important to understand that ALL Scripture is inspired of God. The Old Testament is indeed valuable as it is filled with the prophetic message of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ; a prophetic message that is found fulfilled in the New Testament. In fact, the Old Testament is filled with shadows or types of the person of Jesus Christ. The word “shadow” denotes a suggestion or hint of something to come, and the word “type” stands for a figure taken as foreshadowing someone who will come in the future. Therefore, we see evidence of the prophesied Messiah, Jesus, woven into the life stories of many of the Old Testament Biblical characters. With that in mind, even King Ahasuerus of the Book of Esther is found to be a “shadow or type” of the Lord Jesus Christ. What follows is a compilation of the attributes of King Ahasuerus as compared to King Jesus, and the Lord God Almighty—as He interacts with the Nation of Israel.
