Joey Davis was usually a very healthy, second grade boy. He rarely missed school and never got sick. But today was different. Today, Joey was certain he was going to be ill. What else could it be? Shortly after his teacher, Mrs. Nicholas reminded the class that this Thursday was Family Night; Joey’s stomach started feeling funny. He brushed his brown hair out of his eye and tried to think of a good excuse to explain why his family couldn’t come to Family Night. Maybe he would just tell his teacher that he doesn’t have a family.

One little boy’s innocent observation became the inspiration for his mother’s book. Joey Davis is a child coming to grips with his own identity of being a stepchild. Along the way, he has a startling revelation about the birth of Jesus.
About the Author
Carrie is happily married and resides with her family in the Akron, Ohio area. Her VIP daughter and grandson live with her, and she is still learning to share her VIP son, who inspired this story when he made an innocent observation.
Carrie graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2010 and received her master's degree from Lipscomb University. She is a public speaker with a unique perspective as a licensed teacher. She occasionally moonlights as a special education assistant and a substitute teacher.
