Introduction
A Serious Request
I often revisit a prayer I grasped to own personally. It became the pivoting point of my life.
“Lord, use me for a work that can only be explained by the people as an act of Yours.”
Experiencing God, by Henry Blackaby and Claude King
Our prayers are such a sweet savor to God. Even when we lose track of our childlike ambition and wonder, He never forgets. I repeated this prayer quite flippantly over and over again with the rhythm of a beat. Suddenly one day, I felt a spiritual tap on my shoulder drawing me to sit down. “Come, let’s reason. “Isaiah 1-18
“Are you sure?” I heard in my spirit. “You can bow out of this now, because this is a serious request... a hard thing. This means you will have to wait for Me to act in what seems impossible.
2 Kings 2:10 NIV
10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
I was restrained from my callous repetition. There was cause to deliberate. The sensation of waves and imagery of horsemen led me to consider the depth of Moses’ faith …then mine. Now silenced, my heart had to speak, “But … You Are God!”
It is here that we can be used; transparent for what the Father wants to share in the faith of its outcome.
Like anyone who may realize any potential in life, we seem to focus on our flaws. We see how we may never be used of the Lord for any great thing. Yet, God sees quite the opposite. He specializes in hurts, injuries and self-imposed wounds to heal miraculously. All He needs from us is to receive what He gives in return.
Where I have fallen weak, God wants to use to make me stronger. Christ died for this!
“Come now, let’s settle this,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.
“Leave the results to Me”, (I hear) He is deliberate in His plan. His charge is very frank. He has a choice. With our freewill opportunities we are to listen for what that choice is involving any and all endeavors. He intends for us to follow Him and walk in the stages of His call. He has the plan, and it has been that way since the beginning of time. Nothing has changed on His part. Our part is to follow with unreserved trust.
We must take time on earth to learn God’s heart and character. It’s intriguing. There is such ‘awe’ in the fact that we can relate, communicate and actually know Him on this side of heaven. Where we thought we were single, disconnected, and left to make our own decisions, we find He is a romantic partner who is quite caddish and very creative. Romance is His specialty, and it is a very prominent part of His character. He insists on active participation and presence, with us being extremely aware of His every move. We should not miss Him in any aspect. He has modeled event of His choice since the beginning of time with Adam and Eve, all the way to everlasting. Each of us has a testimony, a memory to retrace of how we are attaining the Prize of Christ Jesus.
You will see how God met me in the folly of divorce. None ever intended to fall there, but our nation and world has felt its nasty and painful bruise in the race. In spite of it there are episodes of miracles in the following pages for restoration and reassurance of His love. There is an abundance of what He desires to teach us concerning His Way of deliverance.
Only God knows the path He has for the chosen, wrecked life. Each individual has a specific, tailor-made path orchestrated to the complete surrender toward His plan. The results and timing are up to Him. The simple fact that He even has a choice is a major paradigm shift for most. We try-on and take-off sacred life commitments like clothes in a dressing room. It is time to stop and consider God. It matters. He cares. He wants us to survive.
That is why the Lord says,
12 “Turn to me now, while there is time.
Give me your hearts.
Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.
14 Who knows? Perhaps he will give you a reprieve,
sending you a blessing instead of this curse.
Perhaps you will be able to offer grain and wine
to the Lord your God as before
Joel2:12-14
