Hi! My name is Gracie. Do you like stories? Well do I have a story for you. It’s all about me… It’s Gracie’s story.
First of all, let me tell you something about me. You already know that my name is Gracie. I’m not sure how I cam to be named Gracie. It’s the only name I’ve ever known.
It’s not because I’m graceful. My family would tell you that. I’m a little clumsy and awkward, but I’m still a baby. I’m four years old. I’m an Amazon Blue Front Parrot. We Amazon Blue Fronts live up to fifty years, so I still have some growing to do. My relatives are from the Amazon rain forests, very far away from here.
Well, now that I’ve shared some things about me, lets begin my story.
My earliest memories were of my mom, dad, and sister in a high tree in the Amazon Rain Forest. We were very happy, and loved each other very much. The sun was shiny. Mom and Dad fed us, and we played games in our nest.
One day while our Mom and Dad were away hunting for food, some men came and took my sister away from our nest. We growled and pecked and hissed at the men, but they were too strong.
We were frightened. My sister and I didn’t understand what was happening to us. We chirped and chirped, calling for our parents. But it seemed they couldn’t hear us. We were even more frightened when they put us into two separate boxes. We had always been together.
We were taken on a truck to a building. My sister was left behind in the truck while a man took me and my box aside. The lady in the store gave the man something.
Then the man and my sister drove away in the truck. I haven’t seen my sister since. This is the sad part of the story.
The lady took me out of my small box, and put me into a large metal box. I think you would call this a bird cage. She gave me some food and water, and talked gently to me. I liked the sound of her voice, but I was scared, confused and scary.
Where were my parents and sister? And what was going to happen to me? Was I naughty, and caused this to happen?
“I miss my sister,” I thought to myself. “I wonder if she misses me. I wonder if I’ll see her again.”
