Introduction
The life of Jesus on the earth established a new order in the worship and service to God. He demonstrated the power of the Kingdom of Heaven as a lifestyle because God’s presence was with Him. With your born-again status, God has redeemed and recreated you by the Spirit of adoption to become a part of His light. He has adopted you, born of His Spirit. He calls you by name and given you an identity in Christ Jesus. Therefore, God expects you to orient your life to the demands your new identity places on you. Though you are an earthen vessel, God wants the power of His kingdom to flow through you in your daily life experiences.
Jesus bore the identity of God and you bear Jesus’ identity. He baptizes you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Your new status in Christ introduces you to the realm of the supernatural, the power of the Kingdom of Heaven.
God expects you to embrace the reality of your identity in Christ. He wants you to acknowledge you are part of the chosen generation and of a royal priesthood. You have become a part of a nation of peculiar, holy people and God’s own possession. Embed yourself in Jesus so His power can flow through you for the good of people.
It is very important to know who you have become in the One who shed His blood on your behalf. Let your love for Him motivate you to walk in the power that accompanies your identity in Him. Understand the cost of your new identity in Christ Jesus. His shed blood broke the chains of Satan off you, and God brought you into newness of life. Jesus has washed you from all sins and declared you as acquitted from all guilt before the Holy God.
God wants you to cooperate with Him to make you into a ruler and full of Him in this age and in the age to come. Based on who you are in Christ, and where God is taking you, it is unacceptable to slump into a mundane Christian lifestyle, where you fail to yield to the demands and disciplines of who you have become in Christ. There is supernatural power shut up in your new self—your identity in Christ—which must produce a dynamic life in and through you.
Elymas, a magician in Paphos, opposed Paul and Barnabas when Sergius Paulus, a proconsul sought to hear the Gospel. Apostle Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, rebuked him and immediately, mist and darkness fell on him and he became blind. Seeing what happened, the proconsul believed (Acts 13:7-12).
Apostle Peter said to a lame man who begged for money at the gate leading to the temple, “Look at us! I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he did (Acts 3:1-9). Apostle Peter gave to the lame man the creative power of the Kingdom to which he now belongs, the power of his new identity in Jesus Christ.
As the moon reflects the sun, you reflect Jesus Christ as light in this world, to illuminate the darkness of many people. Your new identity in Christ is in the likeness of God and therefore you are a member of His family of spiritual power agents. The token of God’s nature you have received testifies to your eminent exaltation to the place of reigning with Christ. Therefore, learn to handle the promise of your inheritance of God’s kingdom with diligence of faith. Heed God’s command to live your identity in Christ.
Be excited about your now and future status. God’s immeasurable power abides in you! Yield to the demands it places on your life and become a reflection of God’s Light, to illuminate the darkness of many in this corrupt world.—Evangelist Francis Boafo
