HE STRENGTHENS THE FEARFUL
Judges 7 : 9 -23
January 25th
“But if you are afraid to go down,…. Afterwards your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp. “ - Judges 7 : 10 & 11 b (ESV)
Encouragement. Delivery from fear. Reassurance. That’s what we all need from time to time. The world we live in is a dangerous place. The more pressing problem sometimes is what is within us!
Discouragement. Despair. Despondency. Fear. Do you think God doesn’t know this? He does. He delivers us from all our fears and doubts. Most ministry leaders were men and women like you and me. They also had their ups and downs. They used to doubt and fear too! But the Lord strengthened and sustained them. He delivers them from their fears. He is waiting today to deliver you too from all your fears and worries.
Gideon had been affirmed by signs which he himself asked. Still Gideon is afraid. He has doubts. The Lord senses this and even before he can vocalize his fears, the Lord has an answer for Gideon. He instructs Gideon, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it unto your hand. But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant. And you shall hear what they say, and afterwards your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” What generous words!
The Lord is mindful of the mental status of you and me too dear reader! He sends fearful Gideon and Purah to the outposts of the enemies – Midianites & Amalekites. As these two walk in the darkness, they overhear a conversation between two enemy soldiers. A coincidence? A providence! The dream and the interpretation awes Gideon. He worships God, returns to the camp and proclaims, “Arise, for the Lord has given the host of Midian into your hand.” The leader Gideon had fears. The Lord banishes his fears and gives him a call, a vision. Gideon goes and shares his vision with others. This results in an action plan which is executed. A victory is won! What a way to go! Are you fearful today? Don’t be afraid, we have a God who knows your fears. He will send a Purah to walk with you. He’ll send a dream to shatter your fears. Fear not! Go forward and win battles for God today!
Our Heavenly Father! We thank you Lord. You care for our fears. You take our fears away. Lord help us to trust you implicitly today as we go forth in Your Name. Dispel our doubts and worries. Encourage us Lord and use us in your Kingdom. In His Name, Amen

THE PRINCESS & PHIL
Philippians 4: 1 – 28
December 4th
“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Philippians 4: 5, 6 (ESV)
A beautiful princess. The only daughter of the king. The only child he had. The dowry was the kingdom. But hold on. She was an ace runner. The King wanted to get her married. Many suitors pressed their claims. The princess pouted as she declared, “Whoever outruns me will win me.” The king added, “And my kingdom” The prime Minister conducted the prelims and heats. He selected the best young men. Among them many ran with the princess. They all were defeated by her.
Phil showed some promise. A race was arranged between the princess and Phil one day. There were four laps on the course. In the first one, Phil and the princess were neck to neck. As they ran towards the first half of the second lap, the princess was inching forward. Phil fished out something from his pocket and threw it near the princess, just outside of the track. It was a glittering gold ball. The eyes of the princess glinted, “I can surely get it and come back to the track.” She swerved aside, picked up the ball and came back. Now they were neck to neck. It was the third lap. Phil threw another gold ball. This time it went a little farther out of the way! The princess turned aside to get it. Phil almost overtook her but she came back and made it into the lead!
The last lap now. Phil took a gold ball, this time encrusted with dazzling diamonds. He threw it far off the course. The by-now addicted princess went all the way off the course to pocket it. By the time she came back, Phil has crossed the victory line! He won the princess, the kingdom, and all his gold balls too!
Phil was a perfect manager of time! Time is irreparable. Just like the princess in our story, an hour, a minute, a second, or even a millisecond can cost you dearly. It may make you miss. Miss a bus. A flight. An interview. The second coming of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ can be anytime. It can come even as you are reading this, dear reader. Let’s be prepared. Always on the course. Let us not swerve aside like the princess. Be on the straight and narrow path!
Dear Father! We are grateful for the lovely gift of time you bestow on us. Help us to be aware of it. Help us to stay on course. Always in the straight and narrow path. May we win the race for you o Lord. We trust you. Help us manage our time well. For You. We ask in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen
