When Love Came Walking By
Adam sinned even though the Lord said
That it would cause him to die.
Then he wondered, What can I do?
And love came walking by.
God killed a lamb, and He clothed them there,
A covering for their sin.
He loved His creation so very much,
He wanted them clean within.
Sometime later, Cain killed Abel
In a fit of jealous rage.
Again God spoke, saying, “You’ll not die,”
And added another page.
Now time won’t permit to recall all sin’s events,
Even though we tried.
But every time man looked to God,
Love came walking by.
Sin is a mark, a big black blotch,
That grows when left alone.
But God has always provided a way
That for sin He could atone.
He knew what lay in the heart of man
After sin had taken its toll.
But God, in love, made a way
Freeing him; spirit, body, and soul.
Now since the day of Adam’s sin,
Thousands of years have gone by.
Still today when a man doth sin,
Love comes walking by.
It reaches out, it woos and draws,
And it stands, calling unto men.
God is love, and He loves so much,
That love walks by again.
Now, many sin each and every day
In what they think, say, or do.
But when they look up and say, “I’m sorry,”
God’s love comes shining through.
So earthly love, though selfish be,
In a measure we understand.
But this heavenly love, which comes from above,
Is far above the mind of man.
Try as we will, and try as we may,
This great love to gain,
Man cannot make it on his own,
So he fails and falls again.
Then he gets up and he tries again,
And he fails as the days go by.
But God’s never dying, unfailing love
Always comes walking by.
We are the righteousness of God in Christ,
Purely by what He gave.
And we are made pure by what He has done,
For by His love He doth save.
And though ‘til eternity time will go on,
And though a thousand years go by,
For every time one fails and repents,
Love will come walking by.
It hung on a cross, and cried, “Father, forgive,
For they know not what they do.”
And yet today, though we don’t understand,
That love comes shining through.
No matter how terribly you may fail,
Or how often as the years go by,
His plan never fails. If you cry, “Father, forgive,”
God’s love will come walking by.
