The little girl then started to cry again. She started to yell that she was hungry, it was almost noon. I asked, "Did you have lunch yet?" The mother said, "We were about to go home and have lunch." The little girl then yelled at her mother, "We didn't have much breakfast and I'm hungry now." The mother then started to cry. I asked, "What's wrong?" She told me, "I'm fine, but the kids had very little dinner last night and little breakfast this morning.. They haven't had lunch yet either." She told me, "I don't have much for lunch at home.." She finally told me, "My husband, Jim left us on Thanksgiving Day."

About the Book
A couple of empty nesters find themselves helping a woman with two small children. The woman’s husband left her at Thanksgiving with little money. The couple adopts the family and shares their wealth of friends and their community to help the small family.
About the Author
Barbara J. Beaston’s writing was inspired by her maternal grandmother and uncle, who wrote stories of their family history. Barbara started to write in high school and continues to write today. Barbara lives in central Pennsylvania. She plays flute and piccolo with several community bands. She also sings with a community church for their Christmas Cantata each year.
