Sweet Southern Breeze
Birds chirping away in nearby trees,
Crickets leaping like grasshoppers in the grass.
It was last night’s rain that was swallowed up in the earth,
Whose residue kissed the daylight, while its fragrance seeped in through a heightened window screen.
It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face,
Making me inhale as my body awoke and exhaled as my feet touched the floor.
Roosters crowed, Good morning.
Cows mooed and giggled while yielding buckets of milk.
Specks of sunshine sparkled in between the leaves on the trees.
Nature was breathing; her breath was fresh and crisp, yet ever so soft.
It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face.
My eyes were opened wide; a smile curled up on my lips.
Mosquitoes swarming around like bees getting ready to make honey,
Wasps—distant cousins to bees—nestled together in their nest.
Sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch, sipping coffee,
Slowly rocking back and forth, treasuring the moment.
It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face.
My nostrils waltzed in step with the sweetness of mother earth.
Caterpillars, now butterflies,
Congregating together to make a beautiful motif.
Ants, by the hundreds, colonizing alongside the edge of the garden.
Daddy chopped wood and piled it on the side.
Mommy washed clothes and hung them on the clotheslines.
It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face
Tadpoles, toads, and frogs hiding in the ditch,
Snakes hissing, while sliding and wiggling their way through the fields.
Daylight faded; her sunset changed our blue sky to a glowing bright orange.
Nightfall kissed daylight goodnight while the moon and stars took their place in the sky. It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face,
And the stillness of the night was so surreal.
Lightning bugs flying free outdoors,
Moths attracted to the light fixture high in the ceiling.
You can hear the wind, and you can feel a breeze stirring in the air.
And every now and then you’ll see a glimpse of a shooting star as it streaks across the sky.
It was a sweet, southern breeze that touched my face,
That made me realize there is no place like home.

About the Book
For writer Linda L. Dawson, poetry is an expression of emotions oftentimes bundled and knotted up who finds it difficult to share her innermost feelings. It is a way of pouring out the definition of the real you in an uninhibited and written format.
She realizes that innumerable people feel exactly as she does. Therefore, it is her prayer that readers will be inspired while reading Memories Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Forevermore. In her poems, she explores the reality that life existed before she was saved. Like your experience, her walk to truth was not always easy. Like you, she prays to remember that journey with humility and hope.
We understand today that without our yesterday, which shaped and molded us, our tomorrow would be nonexistent and without promise. In Memories Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Forevermore, she seeks to encourage those who do not yet know God to know him, because he stills saves.

Linda L. Dawson began writing as a hobby, and that hobby is now her career. She loves the Lord shamelessly and strives every day to shower him with thanksgiving. She is a wife, mother of three, and grandmother. A North Carolinian by birth, she now lives in Elmont, New York.
