In an attempt to encourage an ailing mother Naomi Clay Horse purchases a puppy to lift a dismal situation at home. Her elderly mother finds little joy in life. Home life is depressing without laughter. The puppy is rejected by Naomi's mother. She is faced with training an indoor pet for herself. When Mother is unable to recall the puppy's name Naomi draws from her rock hound experiences. The puppy will need an easy name to pronounce and remember. She matches the puppy's coat to a a mineral, mica. Naomi adds feldspar to the name to differentiate the dog from the Bible's minor prophet, Micah. Conflicts arise between Mother and Naomi. Mica delights in mischief towards "Granny". Daily gaiety continues until Granny moves away. Mica is left with an entire house to himself and takes great pleasure in it. Miss Clay Horse becomes the only recipient of the joy Mica Feldspar has to offer.
Miss Clay Horse treats Mica Feldspar like a boy. She realizes that his training parallels with teaching small children. "A Day with Mica Feldspar" teaches not only behavior, but how to care for a pet. She includes activities to reinforce learning and promote fun in learning.

With experience in early childhood development and special education, Miss Clay Horse endeavors to target formative years with this book. She attended a junior college, College of the Desert (CA), graduated from the University of Redlands (CA), completed graduate school at San Bernardino State College (CA), and received a certificate in ministry from Golden Gate Baptist Seminary (CA).
