Chapter 21
Believe
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
—1 John 5:20, emphasis added
Some of the greatest words from the Bible appear in John 3:16, as you earlier read in the book. God loves, loves, loves you. But you won’t comprehend that until you realize what He has done to make your life in heaven easy, pleasant, and wonderful for you. So realize, as the above verse from 1John states, that Jesus is the Son of God and is here for you. God is right by your side, even though you can’t see him physically.
I know it is hard to imagine that anyone could hurt their child—indeed, their only begotten child—in this way. But God put Jesus through this pain because God had a plan. His plan was to help you! God, in all His wisdom and intelligence and heavenly thinking, knew that we could not get to heaven unless He let Jesus become sin for us in human flesh. And Jesus accepted this knowledge.
We ourselves are not perfect (we know that). And no one else is perfect. That’s why we, along with this entire world, are in so much turmoil. Each one of us has sinned. Of course, we might admire someone based on the Christian witness of their life, while calling them the perfect person. It may be difficult to think of them sinning. But if the Bible says “all have sinned,” then you better believe it. We all have sinned. Romans 3:10 says this: “As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Now also read what Romans 3:23 says: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” No one is perfect.
God wants to help you in this earthly life. Ask God to come in to your life. Ask God to help you understand that you have nothing to fear. Learn to depend on God’s will for your life. Learn to trust God. Believe me, you will get the courage you need when you realize that you have such a trustworthy God to truly depend on.
God has a plan for you. But you may not know of that plan in advance, so remember what you read earlier from Philippians 4:6–7: “Be anxious for nothing.”
Pray to God. Pray to Him with all your heart. Let Him take over your thoughts and emotions. Let Him guard your mind with His power. He will help you because He loves you!
As I was getting by in life (or so I thought), I had no idea that God was going to use my experiences to help others. It was only when, twenty years later, I questioned Him and then listened for His whisper that I quite certainly heard “write My book.” Okay, I did not actually hear the words. Instead, the words came into my mind. But I am so very convinced that they were not words that my mind would have formulated, because I would not have used the word my. Have you listened for God lately—or ever?
More Courage?
In John 14:1, Jesus says: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” It also takes courage to stand up for your religious beliefs. Do not let anyone bully you into thinking less about Jesus. John 5:22 and 27 inform us that God gave Jesus the authority to execute judgment. Do you think that Jesus will be involved in judging you after you die? Absolutely yes! John 5:23–24 tells us that “all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” You might already be very religious. If so, make sure you believe in Jesus and take His words to heart. In John 14:6, when apostle Thomas (Doubting Thomas) asks Jesus a question, Jesus lets Thomas know: “‘I am the way, the truth and the light. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Keep it very clear in your mind that Jesus said “No one.”
God had a plan for Joshua and Thomas, just as He has a plan for you. As the Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 2:3–4, God is one “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Believe in Jesus and believe that God has a plan for you. Consider what was said about Jesus in John 10:32: “Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

Chapter 22
Mary Had a Little Lamb—To Help You through Your Latest Jam
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
—John 15:5
This saying of Jesus from the gospel of John informs me that while I can struggle with something, I won’t produce the best results until I fully turn my situation over to Jesus and let Him use His powerful strength in the situation. Oh, sure, I might produce some seemingly good results which really are nothing. But Jesus (the Lamb of God) is telling us that if we truly believe in Him, He lives in us! God’s divine strength is so much greater than our individual strength alone. His strength allows unimaginable results. He is the source of our being; He is the source of the life within us; He is the power within us. He is our protection and
