The Resurrection of Christ

So now at the upper room, Mary Magdalene has given the shocking news to Peter and John. However, there is no indication whether this was a private, whispered conversation, or the news was given aloud within the hearing of others in the room. John 20:3,4 records that both Peter and John immediately left at a run to see the empty tomb for themselves. As I will prove using a later verse, they were somewhat skeptical of the womens' claim. We will see also that Mary Magdalene, by herself, followed the two disciples back to the garden. Meanwhile, Salome and the "other" Mary most likely remained at the upper room. Now, if there were any women present who had not accompanied the three to the sepulcher, but had planned to follow a short time later; they would have been dissuaded by the terrible news of the missing body of Christ, and waited for Peter and John to return. So, whether they overheard Mary's report to the two men, or were informed by Salome and Mary (of Joses), is unimportant. What seems crystal clear from scripture is that none of the women who were part of the initial visit to the sepulcher attempted to intercept the groups as they left Joanna's home, and Martha and Mary's house at Bethany. Keep in mind, the first arrivals, upon returning from the tomb, may have passed close by the home of Joanna, but only if they did not make the return trip south, and outside the city wall. If Salome, for example, had stopped to inform Joanna's group of their discovery at the garden; the women who were abiding with her would probably not have gone to the sepulcher; and if they had, they would have expected to see the tomb opened. Yet, I must emphasize again that scripture argues against any forewarning of the women who arrived at the sepulcher after the first visit by Mary Magdalene and her companions.
