As we analyze this issue, we will find out that the word world in today’s usage has a different meaning than it did when it was originally used in Scripture. That word used then meant age or simply an era, an epoch of time. Conversely the word world today is for the most part understood as a reference to Earth, the third planet from the Sun. Thus, when it says, “End of the world,” it is automatically construed as referring to the end of life and everything on this planet Earth. Others extend it to mean the end of existence, which would imply the “end of the created order or of the whole universe.” But again as earlier noted, in today’s usage the words world and age are unrelated in meaning. There is no similarity at all. It is impossible to connect or misappropriate one from the other. This presents a dual problem. On one hand, there is this blatant disregard for the change of wordings, and on the other hand, there is a consequential inadvertent downplaying of the implications of the changes made.
Frankly speaking, what the editors of these different newer versions did was to justifiably correct the older rendering. Let me reiterate this, the KJV had the right translation back then (circa 1600) but not anymore today. Over the course of time, its meaning has changed significantly. Perhaps the correction could be better explained as an adjustment to make current perception more accurate.
