(The evening before the Exodus/Chapter 6) Myrah was nervous about this trip, and caught Hoshe’a by the sleeve, to ask his help with some last minute things. He noticed her reluctance, and gathered her in his arms for several minutes. “Are you certain about this move, my husband?” she asked with her head close to his heart.
“After all these months and our long talks, you can ask this?” he responded. “This is what my father has waited for his entire life. Deep in my heart, I know this is the right thing for us.” Then taking her chin in his hand and tipping her face to meet his, he continued. “Myrah, please know woman, that I am very aware of your feelings. I know this has been your home since your birth, as it has been for all of us. Your mother is staying here at her own request, but the rest of your family will be journeying with us. You will not be alone, the boys and I will be right there too. Is that what is worrying you my love?”
“Not really. I’m concerned about our little one, this time it feels different, and we will be traveling everyday. Won’t that be difficult for this wee one?” she asked without a smile, as she lightly ran her hand over her distended abdomen.
“My dearest wife, we will have six doctors, plus a lot of mid-wives, and even a new “House of Healing” traveling with us, what could possibly be the problem? All problems are anticipated, and provisions have been made?”
“I don’t know...I just have this feeling. Maybe it’s because of seeing and smelling all the death that has happened in the past several months. It puts my teeth on edge, and my skin crawls.”
“You know that HaShem will protect us don’t you, we’ve talked about this many times. I thought you understood this.”
“I understand it in my head, but I’m not sure it has settled in my heart.” She looked a little ashamed, and bowed her head.
Hoshe’a gave her a reassuring embrace, “My dearest, you are surrounded by family, the boys, and my love. You have Rebecca to rely on, and I have it in my heart and I have vowed to protect you,” he said and patted her enlarging belly, “and this wee one, with my life, if need be.” He raised her chin again, and looked deep in her eyes. “You just wait and see, all will be well.”
“Rebecca is an auntie I never had, and she is mechaieh (a pleasure). But Promise me, you’ll be there.” Myrah asked with a faint smile.
“Deep within my heart, I promise you, I will be by your side the whole time we are sojourning to our new home. Now you get all your little treasures, and the box I have sealed up, that carries my Ima’s treasures and put them in the wagon. Then you go take a little rest. We will be leaving later tonight. It’s supposed to be a full moon, now won’t that be nice? A long ride by wagon in the moon-light?” He asked.
“Go on with you now my husband. Sometimes you make me feel like a young girl once again.” she giggled and went into their little room at the school to do as Hoshe’a bid her, with a lighter step.

About the Author
Maureen Harlacher and her husband, David live in a small historical town in Montana, called Stevensville. They both retired in 2004 for a slower life style. David was a fire chief-paramedic, and Maureen was an insurance paramedical examiner, lab technician, medical office manager and helped in office procedures and surgeries.
They have a large family of six children and seventeen grandchildren scattered from coast to coast.
Church is the center of the family and Maureen serves as the church bookkeeper, and teaches classes on the Torah. David works with a church based charitable organization called Carpenters for Christ, and enjoys riding horses.
Besides gardening, cooking and oil painting, Maureen has enjoyed writing fictional stories based on Christian principals, which is her passion. She has several books in the works besides Heart of a Man. Look for:
