She ran over and kicked the ball across the yard. She ran to the ball and kicked it again. The ball hit the steps, bounced in the air and flew over the picket fence.
“My ball!” cried Katy. She sat down on the porch steps. Suddenly the ball flew back over the fence and bounced in front of her. Katy stood and picked up the ball. Then she heard it.
Sniff, sniff. Scratch, scratch. Sniff, sniff. Scratch, scratch.
Katy looked around. There was no one else in the yard. She heard it again.
Sniff, sniff. Scratch, scratch.
The sounds were coming from the white picket fence. She walked to the fence and followed the sounds. Halfway down the fence she found a small hole near the bottom. Katy knelt down and looked. Suddenly the hole was filled with a black, wet nose.

About the Book
Katy Keller just moved into a new house two days ago. She is sad because she left all her friends behind and because it has rained at the new house ever since she and her mom moved in. Will she ever make new friends?
On the third day in the new house, Katy wakes up to see that the sun is shining! She goes outside to play with her new ball, but the ball goes over the picket fence in her backyard. That’s when Katy meets Mrs. Bumbleberry, their landlady, and her little brown dog, Trina. There she plays with the dog and helps Mrs. Bumbleberry in the garden. But she still misses her friends. Will Mrs. B be able to help Katy feel better about her new home?
In this illustrated children’s story, one little girl who has just moved makes a new and unexpected friend and learns an important lesson about friendship.
About the Author
Kathleen lives in a wooded area of eastern Missouri near her family. She is blessed to come from a home where God and family were always important. Like Mrs. Bumbleberry she had a beloved dachshund named Trina.
