People are considered successful based upon achievements, accomplishments and acclaim. Their achievements become significant as it relates to life in this world. It does not matter if it is Oprah Winfrey, Venus Williams, Michael Jordan, Madam C. J. Walker, Thurgood Marshall, Harriet Tubman, Desmond Tutu, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jennifer Hudson, John the Baptist, Elijah, Mary Magdalene, or Abraham. All of these noted icons built their success stories by working hard, sharpening their craft, being engaged and identifying ways to perfect their specific area of interest. What is often unknown is that before they caught our eye on the public stage, private foundations were laid that assisted in their development and their ascension. . . . . .
Reaching any level of success is never easy. Success requires behind the scene development and training. You should not ever become so preoccupied with visible expressions of success that you neglect to look behind the scenes to evaluate the invisible expressions that lay the foundation for successful people. In evaluating the behind the scene moments, you will get a better appreciation for their success. People do not become successful without a solid foundation. . . . . .

CHAPTER 4
It is comforting when your intimidation and loneliness take a back seat to the presence of God. Confidence in God allows you to pull from your reservoir of memories and reflect on past victories, which makes you comfortable in God’s abilities to fight on your behalf. That’s when your confidence in God kicks in and you say, “I don’t care how big the giant is my God is bigger!” Confidence in God prevents you from showing up on the battlefield with unmanageable apprehension and paralyzed by fear. Rather, you show up confidently focused on the power of your God, instead of the size of the giant. You rely on the victorious track record of God. Your confidence is the result of the manifestation of your trust in God. That is why David boldly proclaims, “But I come against you in the name of the Lord almighty.” Like David, we learn that there is nothing more comforting when facing giants than confidence in almighty God.

About the Author
Claybon Lea, Jr. is a father, pastor, preacher, author, professor, denominational leader, and musician who has faced many challenges and is accomplished on many levels. He is the Senior Pastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield and Suisun City, California. He holds a Doctorate of Ministry from United Theological Seminary and a PhD from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Gateway Theological Seminary, as well as taught and lectured at seminaries, bible colleges, and conferences throughout the United States of America.
