I HAVE A SPECIAL FRIEND
I have a special friend and by my side he always stays
He is always there with me even when far I stray
He knows I am not perfect and sometime backward I do slide
He never judges me for failing but stays right there by my side
No matter what the trouble he’s there with helping hands
He knows when I have fallen and he always helps me stand
His arms are always open and his forgiveness always free
His love is unconditionally and he’s always there for me
He sees me at my worst and loves me just the same
Though I oft break his heart and fill it full of pain
He waits for me patiently to mend my sinful ways
And he offers me his grace each and everyday
He’s paid a very heavy price to be my special friend
And he always whispers in my ear I’m with you to the end
I know I may not be perfect and I pray for help each day
For without his precious help I will never find my way
I know a day will come when I must face my life of lies
And I know he will be there for me with love shining in his eyes
All that he requires is I trust and believe in him
And though I can’t see him it’s the only way to him
He will stand as witness for me when before the throne I go
For he told me he would be there when finally home I go
Now if you haven’t figured out just who my special friend could be
Why I’ll tell he is God son, Jesus Christ that gave his life for me

About the Author
Larry E. Reinheardt perfected his writing skills while serving his country for twenty years in the US Army. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War having served two tours. His poetry is an outlet for what he has seen and learned in life. He and his wife presently reside in Tacoma, Washington, since his retirement from Boeing and the US Army.
