I'm Saving Your Letters

I can guess that the main thought that is running in the minds of our mothers back home is, "When are our boys coming home?" I would certainly have enjoyed attending services at some of the churches at home on Thanksgiving Day. On that day, Kitty, we were all marching along en route to this place, and I was thinking as we trudged on through the rain that I had indeed been a very fortunate boy and, in God's great mercy, had come through the war (that is, all I have seen of it) with a whole skin. I feel very grateful to Him that I am able to sit here this evening with a measure of comfort and write the account of the days' and past few weeks' events. Some that I know were not so lucky, as they were buried while we were on the Vosges front. I certainly felt very sober then, and was brought face to face with some of the sad and stern facts about war. If I never was of a serious turn of mind before, I certainly am a little so inclined now.
