But let the righteous be joyful;
let them exult before God;
let them be jubilant with joy!
—Psalm 68:3
Do you remember the games you played when you were little, or have you watched children play with pots and pans? Their toys and games are so simple, and yet they are satisfied. We recall when our granddaughter, Madelaine, was about two years old. Her mom would tape bubble wrap to the kitchen floor. Madelaine was in heaven. She stomped back and forth on the bubbles, breaking them and listening to them pop, all the while saying, “I’m so happy. I’m so happy.” It made us smile.
What makes us happy as adults? Do we stomp on bubble wrap? That might actually be fun! God gives us many perks to enrich our lives and bring happiness to us along the way. Who doesn’t love a beautiful sunset or a quiet walk by the ocean? Nature abounds with serendipities to delight our spirit: an eagle in flight, a beautiful flower, the smell of a fresh rainfall. An entire book could be written about the joys nature provides.
. . . There is great joy in finding God, and there are also many treasures that come along while pursuing him. You can “have your cake and eat it, too.” The joy of finding God is so important in the life of a Christian. We made his acquaintance, and now we have to find out who he really is. In reality, God becomes the center of our happiness and joy.

About the Book

About the Author
Jerry Binko is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received his bachelor’s degree in social studies and his master’s in education and theology from St. Mary University in Winona, Minnesota.
Jerry taught social studies for forty-three years in Catholic and public high schools. He led religious education programs and seminars, and created lesson plans for the Milwaukee diocesan publication, Hi-Time. Jerry also directed choral groups and moderated sports programs. He sings in two choral groups, likes to fish, and enjoys his favorite TV show, The Lawrence Welk Show.
Nancy Binko grew up in the small town of Bellevue, Iowa. She received her bachelor’s degree in music education from Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and earned her master’s at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
Nancy taught music in elementary schools for forty years and still enjoys bringing music to others as a piano instructor. She likes to relax with a good mystery novel.
Jerry and Nancy are involved in ministries at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and they lead the ministry at the Somerby Retirement Community. They enjoy relaxing at the ocean and spending time with family. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.
