Christ is the Head of the church. He has revealed its doctrines in the Bible. We do not have the right to substitute our preferences for Bible doctrine. Churches in America today are under pressure to give up Bible doctrines that are distasteful to unbelievers. But we must not compromise the teachings of Scripture. Let us consider some Bible doctrines that are under persistent strong attack today.
The exclusive nature of the gospel is under attack. The Bible teaches that if people are to receive forgiveness and eternal life it must be by faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The individual's attempts to live a moral life will not suffice. Following Mohammed will not do. Following Buddha will not do. Jesus said, " No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).

About the Author
Tommy Shipp is a graduate of Louisiana College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as a pastor in Alabama, Louisiana, and Oregon. He served for thirty-two years as pastor at First Baptist Church of French Settlement, La. He and his wife, Edwina have been married since August 24, 1963 and are the parents of three grown children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
