A Deed in Your Day

I was in the bed by the windows, so I thought someone had pushed one of them open for a while. I remember thinking, “I need to have her close that window so it won’t get too chilly in here before morning.” We continued to visit, and finally she went home. I realized too late that I had forgotten to ask her to close the window. I guessed I could call a nurse if it became too cold. All night I felt the breeze when I would awaken. It never changed temperatures.

The next morning the nurse came into the room ready to begin her routines, and the lady in the other bed asked her to please turn on the air conditioning. She said it had been “stuffy” in the room all night. The nurse agreed that it was stuffy in the room and turned on the air.
