"Sir, do you know where you are?" asked a man sitting next to me. Why is he asking me this? I shook my head, puzzled. "You are in the hospital. I am a doctor. Do you know why you are here?" Again, I shook my head.
"Sir, you fainted and hit your head. We are running some tests. Did you drink alcohol or take drugs today?" I shook my head. "Do you know what day of the week it is? Do you know the president of the United States?" I drew a blank. More questions - no recall. I had amnesia.

About the Book
We all tell white lies to others and, even worse, to ourselves. We do something wrong and instead of acknowledging it, learning from it, and moving on, we lie, saying it was due to circumstances outside ourselves.
“Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.” Gal. 6:4–5 NIV®
Genesis 3:12 NIV®, “The man said, ‘The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’” As long as there has been a record of man, humans have chosen to blame someone else for their wrongdoings.
For you and me, it does not have to be that way. We can change and take responsibilities for our own actions.
About the Author
During Clark’s early days of serving in the US Marine Corps, he learned never to excuse any behavior. If a task was not completed or was done incorrectly, instead of a normal response trying to shift blame onto someone or something else, he was required to take ownership, and the only verbal response allowed was, “No excuse, sir.”
