Lesson 1
Welcome to a journey of learning to find out weekly who God is, who Jesus is, and how He can change your life. This path takes us through the Bible, God’s word. Each week we will learn truth and memorize verses of scripture that will reveal to you how much God loves you and how His precious Son, Jesus came to this earth to fulfill the promise of salvation for all mankind.
The Bible is God’s Word and we will start from the beginning with Genesis. The Bible reveals Jesus throughout all 66 books of the Bible.
The Bible is HIS story. It is God’s love story for mankind revealed and for us to know Him and love Him back.
This book (hold it up for the kids to see) is a library of 66 books divided by the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament has 39 books and the New Testament has 27 books. All written by men, who were inspired by God as revealed in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine (teaching), for reproof (reprimanding), for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect (complete), throughly furnished unto all good works.
Show students the front of the Bible and explain the word “Holy” means “set apart/sacred” and Bible simply means “book.” This is a “sacred book.” This book is to be respected. It is special!
Memory verses for the week –
* Psalm 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalm 25:4 – Shew me thy ways O Lord; teach me thy paths.
Psalm 16:11 – Thou will shew me the path of life; in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures forevermore.
(Remember to always have student recite verse AND reference.)
Lesson 2
Review last week the meaning of what holy is and the Bible. Holy meaning sacred, Bible meaning book, and the importance of this book is different from any other book. God wrote His story for mankind to know Him through this book. Have students review and recite verses from last week. Recognize those who can recite Psalm 119:105 and Psalm 25:4.
New lesson – God is:
Omnipresent – He is present everywhere (Wherever we go God is there)
Omniscient – He is all knowing (God knows it all and has all knowledge)
Omnipotent – He is all powerful (God is limitless)
God has always been – His name is I AM. There has never been a time when God has never been around.
God loves YOU and is always here for you. He can be trusted and desperately wants you to know Him. This can happen by learning His word. The Bible reveals His son, Jesus to you. God will always lead you in the right direction and lead you down the right path. He created you with a plan in mind and the way to know His plan is to study and learn His word.
Memory verses for the week –
* Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.
Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.
Psalm 31:14 – But I trusted in thee O Lord, I said thou are my God.
Memorization Ideas –
1. Sing/Music – Have students make up a melody/rap and practice verse.
2. Hot potato – Have students stand in a circle. Choose one to be “it.” “It” says the verse and throws the bean bag to another student, who says the verse again. Continue until each child has a turn.
