Will Work for Love

What I believe about myself is based on what others have shown me, how others have loved or hated me, and what others have done to those I love. What I believe, then, is largely based on my twisted or rightful thinking.

No right. No wrong. Just beliefs based on truth, or based on lies.

And me, the 13-year-old girl, whose soul was cracked at the point of sexual abuse, believing that I, indeed, was only as worthy as the good performance I could give. And it was at that breaking point, that the trajectory of my adolescent thinking went from “You are loved” to: “You are worthless. There is no one to protect you. You are on your own. If you don’t give a man what he wants from you, you will always be alone. If you perform really well, he will never leave you. You are a commodity that can be bought and sold for love and attention. You can finally get the affection you’ve been yearning for – if you just give him what he wants. ”

Lies. All lies. But, when we believe lies about ourselves, we go off on a trajectory that is destructive, self-defeating, and hard to re-direct. It is a tangent that is the opposite of life. It is a path that is dark and demonic. The devil is a liar and the truth ain’t in him.

What can pierce these lies of darkness from the pit of Hades? Truth. Truth is a person, and His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus is truth. And love. And light.

Come, Lord, show us the way to truth and love. Our children are being broken and dragged through the pits of Hades. Help us, Lord, draw nigh unto You, so You can break the chains that so easily keep us enslaved, and let us run with perseverance the race set before us.

Thank you for bringing this girl out of the darkness and into the light.
