GOD, IF THAT’S YOU, THEN, PLEASE SEND ME A SIGN
One day while getting ready for work, out of nowhere, I felt a pounding in my chest, and then a powerful sensation that moved through my limbs; tears fell out of my eyes, and there was an overwhelming feeling inside me to get closer to God. I didn’t know what had just happened to me. It was the strangest thing that I had ever experienced. I thought I was losing my mind! So I said the prayer that so many of us have said once or twice, “God, if this is really you, then please, send me a sign.”
Now, first of all, please know that if you are feeling that you need to get closer to God, the One who is going to tell you that is Holy Spirit. I now understand that what is written in His Word (The Bible) is our sign. Yet, since I was a spiritual novice, God obliged by sending me an alternative sign.
At that time, I had never experienced a feeling like that before. I unknowingly thought that it couldn’t be the Holy Spirit because He must only show up at church. (Yep, I had so much to learn.) Later that morning, I entered my workplace with an unsettling feeling inside. I gradually sat down at my desk, looking for a sign from God.
I was searching for anything: a note with the letters G-O-D written on it (in any particular order), a Bible on the printer, or literally a sign that said, “Terita, it’s time to get closer to God!” There was nothing like that around me; therefore, I decided that what happened that morning must have been my imagination. So I began to work.
All of a sudden a man who only joked with me weekly walked up and just started talking about God and church. I don’t remember him ever saying the word God before, yet he picked that day to talk about the Lord! Then he shocked me even more by stating that he was a deacon at his church. I didn’t even know he went to church! I was thinking, “What?” I almost fell out of my chair. He proceeded to talk to me about Christ, and everything he said was as if he was holding a big sign over his head saying, “Terita, it’s time to get closer to God!”
