The #1 responsibility of a parent is to prepare our children for eternity. This means training them to have a relationship with God through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In May 2013 a tornado hit the state of Oklahoma and 24 people were killed. Among them was 29 year old Megan Futrell who was found holding her 5 month old baby Case Futrell. I was moved when I heard her story and comforted to know that she was an active church member. She left behind one other child and her husband. This event speaks loud and clear to all of us and should put everything in perspective. We can do our best to provide our children with shelter, food, health, a good education, scholarship, and even moral values. But in one moment all that can be taken away and the only thing that matters is if our son or daughter is right with God. Then we can look forward to seeing them again.
The Bible says the Word of God will wash you. “Husbands, love your
wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by
the word” (Ephesians 5:25–26 NKJV). We can wash our spouses or
our children with the Word. And we should wash them daily just like
washing our bodies or brushing our teeth.
One time as a child, I was out with my aunt Valorie and cousins. I had
a red slushy and my teeth got all red, but I thought that was so cool. I
said, “Look, everybody, my teeth are red!”

I closed my mouth immediately and was afraid to even laugh after that. I
had a whole new desire to make sure I brushed my teeth in the morning.
When you brush your teeth, it causes other things not to stick to them.
In the same way, when you wash your children in the Word in the
morning, you cause things of the world not to stick to them. They may
see others smoking or drinking, but it won’t stick. They may hear a bad
song, but it won’t stick. They may see a lustful image, but
it won’t stick!
Glory to God, it won’t stick!

About the Author
Rev. Jamar Haynes Lee has been in ministry for over 20 years. Jamar and his wife Cassandra are the founders of Family & Marriage Enrichment and have a heart to help families flourish. Together they also head the Youth Ministry at Glory To God Ministries in Canal Winchester, OH. Youth Pastor Jamar often demonstrates his love for others while preaching in the prisons, visiting the nursing home and hospitals, and helping the less fortunate. Using his gifts, Rev. Jamar has had the opportunity to speak and do standup comedy nationally and internationally, including touring with the legendary comedian Sinbad.
