The evil trinity—the world, the flesh, and the devil—is seeking to destroy us in each season of our spiritual formation. In the Spring they mess with our identity, in the Summer our calling, in the Autumn with our intentionality, and in the Winter with our preparation for heaven—our legacy. The world ushers Christians in this age-bracket near to yet another pit, the flesh persuades us to fall in, and the devil pushes us over the edge. “The pit,” as it were in this last season, represents a silent and dark graveyard filled with a useless waste-collection of untold stories and unspoken benedictions. This glorious heritage of grace (which seems to lack honor and purpose) eventually becomes a muted legacy. On our appointed day, we are called out of such a pit unprepared at the edge of the river’s cold water. We may be not only unprepared to touch younger heads with outstretched hands and faith-envisioning words, but also less willing to stride into the water’s deeps for Him who awaits us on the other side.

Dr. Bob Smart gives God’s perspective on the treasury Christ has given Christians in their final lap. In this book, the reader will discover how to give their message in the form of benedictions, final wills, and testaments.
The Christian will learn how to come to the river of death and how to cross over it in a way that says “to die is gain.” There are many touching stories to encourage the Christian to finish well.
About the Author
Robert Davis Smart has served in Christian ministry both on college campuses with the Navigators and as senior pastor of Christ Church for the last thirty years. As an author and editor he published his Ph.D. on Jonathan Edwards, contributed chapters on the Great Awakening, and written articles and reviews in theological journals. Bob is married, has five married children, and is a grandfather of twelve grandchildren. Bob has taught seminary courses on spiritual formation and theology in over twenty-five nations, and speaks often at conferences on marriage and family.
