Written on Your Heart

Imagine that you have a golden chest filled with treasures that has been stored away for many years. You have friends who often visit your home, and they wonder what you have inside. What naturally gets stored in a treasure chest? Precious materials of course. Items like gold, diamonds, and other gems. Imagine the dismay of your friends as you open this treasure box and you begin to pull out paper clips, rubber bands, buttons, tea bags, and other valueless things. What would your friends think? Of course they’d be thinking you lost your marbles. Our heart is a treasure box. What treasures are you storing inside for all eternity? Jesus said, ‘where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ Let’s make God’s word our treasure. Let’s always find room to put His word in our hearts. Let’s not be like the Pharisees where Jesus called them children of the devil because they didn’t make room for Jesus’ words. (John 8:37).

What a treasure we have at our fingertips. We frequently need to be reminded to keep important what is important. We should never tire of hearing about the value of God’s word. When Paul writes his second letter to Timothy, he encourages him fight the good fight of faith. He wants him to finish the race of life with joy, no matter the challenge. Paul then tells Timothy to ‘keep reminding them of these things.’ (2 Timothy 2:14). Paul knew that God’s people need to be frequently reminded of what is true treasure. The apostle Peter also continuously reminded the church to store up treasure in heaven. He says in his second letter, ‘So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.’ (2 Peter 1:12). All of us need to be frequently urged and prompted to make scripture our true treasure in life. Without it in our hearts, we will be a branch that withers, rather than a thriving, living, and fruitful one.
