On a warm Sunday evening during my 6th grade year I decided it was time to start getting in shape for the swim team and whatever else I might want to do. So I set out on a long ride on my trusty black Schwinn single speed bicycle, which in many respects looked like a beach cruiser. It even had the chrome fenders. Man, I loved that bike. It was my freedom machine. It had a headlight and basket and we would put cards on the front forks that would strike the spokes, making it sound like a motorcycle or at least something that was power driven. I spent many hours riding, working and polishing on that bike. I believe it is still in my mom’s attic in pieces.
The next day at school was great. When I arrived at home I remember going through my normal routine of eating cereal and then going to the restroom. That is where the problem began. Everything went well until I looked at the toilet paper and it was RED. Then I looked into the bowl and it was RED! Panic mode!
“Calm down. Something is wrong, but what is it?” The first idea that entered my head was, “Oh no, am I a girl and don’t know it? How will I ever explain this?” Frantic, I called my mom, who was working for my uncle at the drug store and told her to come home. From that point on everything was a blur.
We saw a local physician who referred us to a specialist who immediately did some kind of painful and embarrassing examination, and then sent me to a hospital out of town to have a lower barium enema done, followed by radiographs. After all of the testing it was determined that I had Ulcerative Colitis or possibly Crohn’s Disease.
I had no idea what any of that was. Why am I here with you guys, I wondered to myself, when I should be out playing with my friends? After two weeks in the hospital, based on the recommendation of a General Practitioner and surgeon, there was some talk of removing part of my colon. At that point, I knew things were serious and I had better pay attention!

Whether you believe in God or not, Healing: Faith and Medicine will ask questions that demand an answer. You may realize that coincidence could have another name: the hand of Almighty God who is moving in our lives.
About the Author
As a practicing dentist, Dr. Davis has helped thousands of patients with their dental health and monitored their medical health as it changed. For the last 45 years he has dealt with his own serious medical issues and has defied the odds of survival. The outcome has been thanks to a combination of very good medical treatment paired with the movement of the supernatural hand of God. As a student Dr. Davis attended Oral Roberts University and learned that God wanted to heal His people. Today Mark believes that is still true, having not just seen or heard incredible stories of healing, but having lived a life only made possible through healing. This is the story he believes God wants him to share.
Dr Davis and his wife Carrie currently reside in Central California where he continues to practice dentistry, is involved in church, bible studies and in spreading the word of God's love and power. Carrie is presently studying and sitting for the CPA exams. They spend their free time with their three college age kids either in the mountains or at the Central Coast.
