Reflecting on days gone by and on the different emotions that have been fostered from the many circumstances I’ve faced, I now sit in a place of peace and count it all joy.
Are my current circumstances perfect? No way! Will they ever be? Absolutely not, but enduring the trials that have come and gone over my lifetime has brought me to this place, a place where I can “let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing” (James 1:4).
The road here has been far from pleasant or joyous. It has been plagued with heartache, confusion, and grief, but oh, the beauty to see God’s hand in it all.
To lay it down, let it go, and experience His peace, a peace we cannot comprehend—that is where we find real joy.
It’s inevitable that we will face trials, but when they come, we can be prepared to face them with the intention of growing throughout the process. We may endure things that are uncomfortable. We may face ridicule and persecution from others, but through those moments, remember, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58).
Never forget that during those times of pain and persecution, our Father can search our hearts, souls, and minds. He knows us. He never leaves or forsakes us, and, “being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6), remember that He will complete a great work in us and through us during all situations.
Satan loves to see our joy drained, our light dimmed, and our witness hindered, so he thrives on the trials we face and feeds our negative reactions. He breathes lies into our thoughts through our circumstances. He influences doubt and fear. We should fight back and beat him at his own game. There is nothing Satan hates worse than seeing God’s glory shining through the darkness.
Praise and be joyous when facing “divers temptations.” Know that they’re only temporary and that being patient while the Lord works will produce so much more positive fruit in your life. Stay focused on the Father and find peace and joy in knowing He is doing a great work in you.
My prayer for all of you today and every day is that you will find that unspeakable joy, even in moments of bondage. I pray that you will rejoice evermore when circumstances imprison you. I pray that you will fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12) and be filled with strength and hope.
May you count it all joy when you fall into “divers temptations.” Every good moment, every bad moment, every smile, every tear—count it all joy.
May your cup runneth over.

Jenny Rhodes is a single mom from East Texas sharing her journey to joy with others. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from Stephen F. Austin State University and loves to use what she has learned in life to speak hope, strength, faith and love. Striving to be a living light, Jenny is very active in her church as leader of the youth program “GLOW” as well as leading the teen choir and helping with Kids for Christ. She also loves to sing in the choir and singing with her two daughters. Jenny most treasures creating memories with the Blondesquad (her girls) and enjoying time with family and friends.
