Morning Comes
Dawn breaks in glory as sunbeams steak over the mighty mountain top. This is how and when the day starts in the city of Kathmandu with over a million people. The view is majestic and breathtaking; as the city sits in a valley of the country of Nepal. Eight of the world’s tallest mountains border the nation of Nepal.

On the edge of the large city is a small house. Behind the house, it is all trees and nature. In front of the house, it is all city. Here lives Amina, who is a wonderful young girl. And this morning, this girl is trying very hard not to be late to meet her friends so they can walk to school together. Her friends are always on time; she is trying to be a good friend by not keep them waiting. She rushes past her mom who is looking for something out the kitchen window. “Mom, I have to leave now,” I say loudly as I put on my coat, grab my school bag and try to eat something on the breakfast plate my mom so lovingly made.
My mom nods in approval but she is still gazing through the window. Being in a hurry, I scurry through the door eating only two bites before I set down the plate outside. Walking fast, I meet my friends where my street meets their street.
“Hi Priya,” I call and wave.
“Good morning! Here comes Alisha,” Priya responds with a smile.
We hold onto each other’s arms as we slide our feet across an ice patch. We are loudly laughing by the time Alisha is close enough to greet us.
“I love playing on the ice!” Priya says with glee.
“I wish we had more time to play and slide before it is gone,” says Alisha.
“I think so too! It is not fair to see the snow on the mountain tops every day. Up there the snow never melts. We barely ever get to play in snow or ice in the valley,” I say as we exchange our secret handshake.
“Here are your invitations to eat lunch and have tea at my house Saturday,” says Priya handing each of us paper letters folded and colored special.
We tuck the letter in our pockets then slide as much as we can and still make it to class before the bell. My face can’t stop smiling because this is the best start to a school day I can remember.

About the Book
Side A:
Dayo and the Fennec Fox is a story about the Lord’s provision and how it is more blessed to give and to tithe. It is set in Timbuktu in 1342.
Side B:
Amina and the Red Panda is about choosing friends that lift you up and is set in Kathmandu, Nepal.
About the Author
In 2015, Amy’s daughter had a school assignment to write a short story. The mother-daughter team delighted in adding extra details and facts (“rabbit trails”) to her daughter’s Egyptian cat story. A month later, feeling led in prayer, Amy began to write a series of Christian character-based books, of which the first book in the series is the elaborated Egyptian cat story. Over a three-week Christmas break, the framework for the series and the rough drafts of half of the books were completed.
Amy is a devoted Christian, wife, and mother to two kids and five rescued pets. The rescued animals consist of one cat, one dog, and three rabbits. The three rabbits are the hostesses of the books. Amy likes to volunteer at church, in youth outreach ministry, and in small and exotic animal rescue. All of them live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
From living with a popular name, she acquired the habit of signing her name and art as “AmyG.”
