Letter to the reader
Starting on December 1st, as a family, join the Wise Men every evening
on their journey for 25 days, searching for The King.
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me
with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV)
As a child, growing up in South-Africa, I enjoyed going on numerous treasure hunts with my family, finding clues and searching for the treasure. Now as a mom with two precious girls, I have a passion to share God’s Word with children and help them discover the excitement in His truth day by day.
That is the reason why the Wise Men Journey was written!
Joined by my sister-in-law, Emily van den Heever, we wrote the 25-day devotional to help you guide your family day by day on a Christmas journey, filled with excitement and truth.
Everyone can discover the hidden treasures in the Word of God that will fill them with joy while searching for The King. The True Christmas Love Story is of the King of kings, leaving His throne in Heaven to come into the world, so that we can have a relationship with Him!
John 1:9 says: The One who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. (NLT)
In guiding your children through this journey and helping them connect with God’s Word, each day has four different sections:
Treasure this
Is the memory verse your family can treasure in their heart. By memorizing scripture, we treasure God’s Word, His truth in our hearts to strengthen our spirit and renew our minds.
Journey
The story is told in a colorful way with a purpose to invite everyone on this amazing journey.
We intentionally kept the scripture in purple, representing the royalty and majesty of our King of kings. Reading, hearing and recognizing the Word from the story, help us memorize God’s truth.
Think about it
God’s Word is alive and it will always produce growing and pruning in our lives. This is where everyone gets to participate with questions and thoughts, enjoying a family conversation.
Prayer
What a privilege we have to communicate with the King of kings through prayer!
Lead them in communicating with the King, Jesus our Savior.
DAY 1
Light
TREASURE THIS
God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all.
1 John 1:5 (NLT)
JOURNEY
Our story began a long time ago when three wise men decided to go on a journey to search for
the King of kings, the Messiah - the Promised One. They followed a star from the east that went
on before them and led them to the Light of the world - Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
Jesus is the Word who already existed in the beginning with God, when God
spoke and created the heavens and the earth with His Words.
John 1:1-5 says:
Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God. He has always been alive and
is Himself God. He created everything there is - nothing exists that He didn’t make.
Eternal life is in Him, and this life gives light to all mankind. His life is the light that
shines through the darkness - and the darkness can never extinguish it. (TLB)
Although the wise men did not know the Light of the world - Jesus the Son of God, they knew there was more to discover, more to learn, because God put that desire in their hearts
to seek His truth. God’s mysterious plan is Christ Himself, which He had planned for us before the world began. They were very wise and studied the scriptures and prophecies in the Old Testament. They studied the stars in the sky and knew that a bright and glorious star
was going to appear.
A once-in-a-lifetime moment they surely did not want to miss! One night, very much like this one, the wise men packed all they would need; food, water and precious gifts. They loaded everything onto their camels, and so their journey to follow the star and search for the Light, Jesus, the Son of God, began.
THINK ABOUT IT
Who is the light of the world?
Jesus tells us in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me
shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (NKJV)
This is a promise that we can hold on to, knowing that Jesus is the Light of the world. When
we follow Him, we shall not walk in darkness, because we have His light inside of us.
We are called to be the light carriers to others and allow the light of Jesus to shine brightly through us, for them to experience His light by the example we live through our behavior, attitudes and choices.
In knowing this truth - that Jesus is the Light of the world, are you ready to join the wise men on
this amazing journey to discover the excitement in the truth and search for the King of kings?
Even though the wise men did not know the Son of God, they still went on this journey because their hearts’ desires were to search and discover the hidden treasure of wisdom and knowledge found only in Jesus.
Together we can unwrap the true excitement of this wonderful journey and discover that each day is a gift from God.
Let everyone know that you are on the most exciting journey ever - an adventure -
and ask them if they want to join you to follow the light of the world - Jesus the Son of God!
PRAYER
Thank you Jesus, that You are The Light of the world. Thank you for being there from the beginning and creating us in Your image. Help us to follow Your light every day and to speak Your truth. We ask this in the Name of Jesus, our Savior,
Amen.
And so the journey searching for The King, begins.....

About the Author
Lynette Meintjes was born in the beautiful country of South-Africa, where she married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Francois. Soon after, they packed four suitcases and found their new home in Kansas, USA. They have two precious girls, Lisabella and Amelie and numerous forest animals who frequently visit their backyard. In their home, Afrikaans is the language they speak, love and treasure. Lynette is an artist and photographer, delighting in the little joys of a cup of hot Rooibos tea, a few times a day. She absolutely adores spending time with her girls, going on nature walks geared with a sketchbook and picnic blanket. Lynette has a passion to guide little ones in the Word of God, helping them to discover the treasures in His truth. On January 1st, 2016 the Holy Spirit prompted her to put down her paintbrush and pick up a pen, to start the journey of her first book. She gives all honor and praise to the Lord for patiently guiding her in His Truth - ever thankful for the blessing of sharing it with you.
