Our fathers are ones that we look up to. They lead us and guide us through our childhood. Most fathers are men who love, protect, and care for us. They are men of courage and strength, and they brave the world for us. They do not let us see their fears or discouragement.
Some of us did not grow up with fathers that followed the Lord Jesus. And for those that grew up without a father—or of one that was just pure evil, I am deeply sorry. But let me say this to you, be glad in the One whom created you. You do have a Father, and He is perfect and true. You can find peace and rest in Him.
By God’s grace, through Jesus, we will overcome our pasts and this current life. He is our God; He has promised us—His children—inheritance to all things (Revelation 21:7). We are His children and with that we are declared, by Him, heirs to the kingdom of heaven. We are heirs to all that is His, through Jesus.
In the One who has promised us inheritance, it is He who is perfect. Where our fathers falter and cave against fear, He stands strong. Where our earthly fathers fall short, God does not. There are no blemishes in His love and mercy. There are no imperfections in His role as our Father. He is the complete and total package, and the one true Father of us all.
We serve our fathers out of love. We live our lives in hopes of making them proud; proud of whom we have grown to be. We seek their stamp of approval on the way we live our lives.
When we do something shameful, we hang our heads, tuck our tails between our legs, and we crawl back asking for their forgiveness. Some fathers are forgiving and welcome their children with open arms. However, there are those that will shun their children for the mistakes made.
God is not like the latter. Jesus spoke the Parable of the Lost Son in regards to the heavenly Father, “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him” (Luke 15:20). This is our God. When we run to Him, by His compassion, He is there with open arms, kisses, and forgiveness. He welcomes us into His presence, His family, and His kingdom.

Bryan Deavor is a devout man of God that has dedicated his life to family, friends, and a true love for Jesus. He is currently a member of Exceed Life Church serving in God’s ministry.
