The sacrificial death and passion of Jesus Christ is the cherished and significant event in human history. Yet the correct cause of how Jesus died remains a mystery. I was called by the sovereign Lord and Great Physician to solve this profound mystery with original research into the following: (1) the twenty-first century medical sciences; (2) the absolute fulfillment of the Old Testament prophetic scriptures; (3) the theological effects of the Christ event, for example redemption by His shed blood and eternal access to God by a new and living way; and (4) the transcendency of Jesus’s precious blood (the forgiveness of sin) and His life-saving water (the Holy Spirit).

By His foreknowledge, almighty God choreographed and directed the passion—every wound and each drop of blood and water loss. The incarnate Son sustained life-threatening mental afflictions and severe physical shock-trauma prior to His crucifixion. These preliminary traumas and sufferings fulfill and perfect the prophetic scriptures and satisfy the twenty-first century medical sciences: the Roman cross was Jesus’s deathbed, not the cause of death.

I conducted a random survey—“What caused the death of Jesus Christ?”—which strongly suggests that Christians believe the following incorrect, yet still standing cause of His death: (1) the tetany/asphyxiation theory (death by suffocation—not shed blood and broken body); (2) the broken/ruptured heart theory (death by internal hemorrhage—not shed blood); (3) the divine intervention theory (indefensible theology); and (4) the piercing theory by the Roman nails (minimal blood loss) and the blow of the lance (a postmortem event). Blood and Water robustly rejects these untenable causes of death in favor of multiple wounds, rapid losses of blood and water, and decompensated multifactorial shock. For the sake of our Lord’s gracious and glorious Gospel, these untenable causes of death are discredited and refuted.

On the night of His betrayal and arrest, Jesus shocked the Twelve when He proclaimed that He—the perfect Lamb of God, and not a sacrificial animal—would cut, seal, and memorialize the new blood covenant by His passion and sacrificial death. His powerful blood and life-giving water transcendently flow across the pages of scripture.

As a board-certified specialist in orthopedic and trauma surgery who trained at Johns Hopkins and Columbia Presbyterian Hospitals, I have written my findings together after three decades of extensive research and pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem. By reading my book, you will be able to avoid false teaching and “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:17-18).

Throughout the sacrificial death and passion of Jesus Christ—from His acute life-threatening stress reaction in Gethsemane complicated by hematidrosis (“bloody sweat”) and adrenal fatigue...to His lethal shock-trauma sustained in the Roman court (massive losses of blood and water along with internal injuries)...to His struggles and falls on the Via Dolorosa...and His arrival on Calvary in “critical” condition—the incarnate Son experienced the totality of sin’s consequences by the release of the human race from sin and restoration to God. Each inflicted trauma and suffering is linked not only to the fulfillment of prophetic scripture, but also to the ransom of His precious blood and living water “offered” to the Father as payment in full for infinite mercy, perfect grace, and eternal life par excellence.

The following fulfillments of Old Testament prophecy reveal how Jesus died and preserve the sacred unity of scripture: for example, the sacrificial Passover lambs; the Levitical animal sacrifices; the blood covenants cut and sealed by sacrificial animals; the severe mental and physical afflictions of Job; the terror, dehydration, and piercings of the Psalmist’s Abandoned/Righteous One; the overwhelming fear, anguish, and scourging of Jeremiah; Zechariah’s Pierced One; and the Suffering Servant of Isaiah—despised, pierced, afflicted by God, crushed, scourged, and led like a lamb to the slaughter in order to justify many.

Blood and Water is a timely book written for faithful Christians—Catholic, Protestant, and Fundamentalist—led by the Spirit to grow in the grace and knowledge of the glorious Gospel. In particular, priests, pastors, biblical scholars, seminary professors, physicians, and surgeons who share great enthusiasm to better understand the mystery of how Jesus died. In addition, there are bible students and scientists, for example, sindonologists and archeologists who are fascinated by this subject. In my view, Blood and Water should be “recommended reading” for every seminarian!

Blood and Water will generate immediate global interest! My conclusions will undoubtedly create controversy and stimulate sharp debate: for example, Jesus was in “critical” condition when He arrived on Mount Calvary...the holy cross was Jesus’ deathbed, not the cause of His death...and Gethsemane was His greatest conflict, agony, and decision. The severity of Jesus’s mental afflictions have been conspicuously underestimated and misunderstood by previous authors.

In summary, my objective is to teach the Gospel—the truth about the mystery of how Jesus died.

· There are no comparable books or competitive book titles. I have addressed the mystery of how Jesus died with groundbreaking research of the twenty-first century medical sciences and the sacred scriptures (the set plan of the sovereign Lord and Great Physician, the fulfillment of the prophetic scripture, the theological effects of the Christ event, and the transcendency of blood and water).

· I discredit and refute the incorrect causes of how Jesus died with original research and fresh viewpoints concerning the mental and physical agonies that Jesus sustained prior to Mount Calvary.

· I am the first to investigate and estimate the number, types, and locations of Jesus’s wounds, the volume of His blood and water losses, and the clinical and laboratory values during His decompensated multifactorial shock. By virtue of my training, experience, and faith, I bring the passion and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ into the modern era of medicine, psychiatry, surgery, and traumatology.

· My medical and scriptural research including detailed charts, figures, and glossary opposes the established norms—the incorrect, diagnoses of tetany/asphyxiation, broken/ruptured heart, divine intervention, and piercings—are discredited in favor of the truth.
