Chapter 5: Where True Healing Comes From
God’s Word is the True Medicine
Although millions of people all over the world have criticized the Bible and conclude that its contents are myths or fairy tales, this is far from true. The same God who created plants and microbial organisms, from which many medications have been derived, has provided a collection of books from which healing can be obtained. Contrary to some of the teachings today about the Bible, the Bible was written by people who were moved by the Spirit of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 in the New International Version states, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Simply put, every word in the Bible is a reliable source to teach, train, correct, and equip you for whatever you need. Hebrews 9:8 NLT identifies the Holy Spirit as the true author of Scripture, not mere men. Paul makes the following statement in this passage, “…the Holy Spirit revealed…”
In the previous chapter, I used this phrase, “God’s DNA” but reserved its true explanation until now. To illustrate the fact that the words of the Bible came from God and contain the power and nature of God, I will do so in natural terms. In 1 Peter 1:23 KJV, the Word of God is referred to as incorruptible seed and in each “word” seed contains the DNA of God or the Divine nature of God to bring what that word is saying to pass. When you asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, you obtained those words from Romans 10:9-10. When you verbalized them, the seed of those words entered your heart, subsequently causing you to be born-again and allowing Jesus to come into your heart in the form of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the “Word of God” and “all things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1 KJV). Do you know who you are starring at every time you read the Bible? Jesus. By moving upon people to write the words of the Bible, the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus and the character of God in every verse. In John 16:13-15 NKJV, Jesus tells His disciples, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.” The words of Scripture can produce results when they are believed and acted upon because there is a Person behind those words (Jesus Christ) who is being revealed.
Going back to the seed illustration, there is another aspect of the word of God as seed to be mentioned. Unlike a variety of seeds which are needed to grow different types of fruits such as apples, oranges, and grapes, there is only one seed source (Jesus) in the Bible. However, each of the different passages of Scripture can produce a variety of results. Every word of the Bible contains the essence or life of Jesus, therefore revealing different aspects of the nature of God. The nature of God is infinitely diverse. One aspect of His nature is the fruit that He bears which is “love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV). Another aspect of His nature that is revealed in the words of scripture is His healing power. In fact, the words of the Bible are analogous to medicine which is used to treat health problems in the body. Proverbs 4:20-22 NKJV states, “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” The Jubilee Bible 2000 translates this passage as the following: “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.” (Emphasis added).
