We returned to her room in tears. Reality was setting in that we may lose our little girl. I called my parents and told them that we needed someone to help hold us together. After hanging up with my dad the phone rang, and it was our dear friend Nancy. I struggled for words to tell her our bad news. I could not talk and had to hang the phone up. Just a few minutes later, our friend and minister at the church we had been attending, Dean West called. Dean told me he had gotten a call from Nancy and she had told him that we needed him. He prayed with us over the phone. He told us that God loves us and he is in control. He said to keep our faith strong and continue to pray and God will listen. He said that members of his church would be praying all night for Kayla and that prayer chains all over the country had been activated on Kayla’s behalf.

Author Michael Black details his family’s journey through childhood cancer with their daughter Kayla. The book tells of his family’s faith in God and the power of prayer. The book can provide comfort and faith to people that have families and friends in similar situations.
About the Author
Michael Black is retired after 29 years from the Illinois Department of Corrections. During his off time, he has worked part-time for ambulance services, served as a volunteer fireman and served as a deputy coroner in the county he currently resides. He volunteered as a 4-H leader, and ran his own photography studio for several years. His proudest moment in life though are the years he has spent as being a father to two wonderful children, Clayton now 28 and Kayla, 23. Having lived the experience in the book with his wife Karel, Mike recently felt a calling to put the journey into this book as a way of giving hope and inspiration to others.
