At the beginning of a new Kindergarten school year, I was walking my new scholars around the school to get them accustomed to their new school environment. I had walked them to the restroom and talked about the importance of washing hands to help keep germs away so that they would not get sick.
“Mrs. Mears, I am not worried about getting sick this year,” said one of my kindergarten scholars. “I have already had the chicken pops and the weasels.” (chicken pox and measles)

About the Author
Kitty Mears earned a degree in Christian education from Emmanuel College of Christian Ministries and a master’s degree in education from Gardner-Webb University. She spent thirty-one years as a classroom teacher in public and private schools in North Carolina. Mears and her husband, Wayne, live in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and currently work as associate pastors at a church in Claudville, Virginia.
