He finally said, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do,” and his gaze turned from me to the papers on his desk. I was history.
At that point my mind was a jumbled mess. I turned away from him to walk out and was thinking “what to do, what to do?” If I could not get in here my dream of becoming a wildlife biologist was probably over. It was too late to approach other schools. My wife was within days of delivering our first child. Everything was crashing down on me and I didn’t know what to do. I started to walk out of his office. Just to the right side of his door was a sofa. Instead of walking out the door, I sat down. I am so desperate at this point I didn’t know what else to do. He will never see me again anyway, and vice versa. What’s the worst he can do—call campus security and have me carried out? Yes, how can things possibly get worse?

Lessons from My Youth describes many of the author’s experiences that had a profound impact on his life. The naïveté of the youthful David often lead to quite humorous results. This book demonstrates that neither death or time can diminish the importance of our earliest experiences and of the people that made them happen.
About the Author
David Reece’s passion has always revolved around the out-of-doors. Although he spent his life working primarily with fish and wildlife resources, his interest actually began as a youth in the woods and waters of Tennessee and North Carolina. Many of his earliest experiences resulted in profound life lessons. These life lessons laid the groundwork for many of the events that were described in his earlier book Papa Dave, Encounters with God. He and his wife, CK, live near the Mississippi River close to Millington, Tennessee.
