James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Is it enough for us to know the facts about Christianity, or to accept the word and obey it. We should never be satisfied with only an intellectual awareness of how to live. We should not merely study the scriptures to acquaint ourselves with knowledge about God. It takes more than know-how to please God it takes action and obedience. God gives us his word as a guide for living; if we would only live by the word we would have less strife and turmoil in this world we live in. How often do you have the opportunity to practice living Gods word? Some would say once or twice a day. Others would say daily. Still others would give another time frame. Shouldn’t we practice Gods word every second of every minute of every day of every month of every year? There are many incidents in which to make Gods word visible in our lives where we can be a doer of His word. If we but look we will find the opportunity arises continually, take advantage of the occasion, do not let it pass you by.
Prayer: Father God, we approach you in the name of Jesus asking that through your Holy Spirit you help us to be "Doers of the Word" and not hearers only. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen

About the Author
Jerome N. Terry was called to Christ at an early age when he first began to read around the age of four. He would look through the scriptures, reading the Bible stories and how God interacted in the lives of His people. As he grew he carried the scriptures with him to Vietnam where they sustained him. After military service in 1971 he remained in church as a pew member only until 1990’s when he began doing a weekly children’s sermon at church. Jerome began writing devotions in 1992 for friends who had computers. In 2006 he graduated Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and was immediately ordained. Rev. Jerome N. Terry served Bethel Lutheran Church in New Orleans, LA.
