I have always loved being a mother. It feels as though I should be writing stories about my children, rather than the loss of one of them. This is not supposed to be my story. It was not supposed to happen to me. It did, however, and it is only by God’s divine grace and healing that my story is being shared with you. On that fateful night, April 17, 2009, we learned that precious Allison, our 15-year-old daughter, had been tragically killed in a car accident. Allison was suddenly gone. My husband looked at me and said, “We have a choice to make tonight; to live or die ourselves, and I choose to live.” I remember those words as if he had said them just one minute ago. His words still echo in my head and they were probably the catalyst for the rest of my life.

God is able to take our heartaches and guide them into faith with thanksgiving. He takes our suffering and coverts it into hope. God will meet you in your every heartfelt loss and sustain you through himself—he will never leave you.
About the Author
The authors of Sometimes I Wake an Atheist are resilient women who have all experienced some sort of tragedy throughout their lives. Their stories are as equally heartbreaking as they are hopeful, sorrowful as they are courageous, and painful as they are beautiful. The authors currently live in Jacksonville, Florida.
