Has it ever happened to you? Even once? If it had, you would know it. You would recall it. You would never forget.
It happened to her. It happened this week when she returned to Haiti after being in the States for a few weeks. Her name is Rachel. She’s tiny. She’s young. She has few resources. But she has a heart the size of Dallas. What happened? As she returned to Haiti to start our In-Patient Malnutrition Program for starving children, something so profound happened that she can’t let it go. She won’t let it go. It has solidified a calling in her heart. According to her, this is what happened:
“If there was ever a doubt in my mind about while I am still in Haiti after 2 years it was shattered this afternoon. Today a little boy died of malnutrition. He was 9 months old. The rest of the world will go on as normal but his mama won’t forget. I refuse to forget. I refuse to let him be another statistic with no name or face. His name was Elison. And in his memory and for every child that comes after him I will fight. No child should ever starve to death. It’s an evil in this world that I will never understand. Elison’s battle here on earth may have been lost, but his victory is in the arms of Jesus.”
“I will fight.” That’s what she said. You see, there are some things worth fighting for. There are some things worth giving everything you’ve got.
Has it ever happened to you? Have you found that one thing for which you were willing to fight? That one thing that stirred your heart and your mind so much that you were willing to sacrifice and give and go and do whatever needed to be done?
Have you ever felt your soul come alive in such a way that you knew you were here for a reason? You knew your life had a purpose and you were going to fulfill that purpose no matter the cost. Has it ever happened to you?
There’s nothing like it. There’s nothing like devoting this one life here on Earth to something that matters, to something that makes a difference, to something you just can’t let go.
It happened to Rachel. Has it happened to you?

About the Author
Stan Buckley is the Founder and Executive Director of But God Ministries, which seeks to share the love of Christ through building sustainable communities around the world. Currently, BGM is working in two communities in Haiti and one in the Mississippi Delta.
Stan practiced law in Hattiesburg, MS for four years before becoming a pastor in 1995. He served as Senior Pastor in three churches over the course of 16 years until he started But God Ministries in 2011.
His education includes degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi (B.S. 1988), Mississippi College School of Law (J.D. 1991), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1998, D.Min. 2009). Stan has been married to Jewell since 1989 and they have twin sons (1993) and a daughter (1996).
Stan speaks and preaches in a variety of settings throughout the year. He speaks to large groups in churches as well as to civic groups, universities, and other organizations.
